The web gambling market in the United Kingdom has doubled in five years, with more than one million punters regularly betting via the internet. According to research carried out by the Dept. of Culture, Media and Sport, English bettors make up approximately 1/3rd of Europe’s estimated total of 3 300 000 web bettors.

The typical cash amount bet by every gamer is estimated at £1,000, with the European business now valued at three point five billion pounds each year.

Amidst the 70 internet gambling web sites in the UK, few are gaming websites promoting casino card games like poker and black jack. A majority of the globe’s 2,000 internet gambling casinos are located in locations with dubious online betting codes. Antigua and Costa Rica account for more than 1,000 casinos between them.

The Government in the UK is hoping to introduce practices and a tax system to control the functioning of the web gambling business. With such regulatory framework in place, web wagering activities would be monitored and the industry can hope to achieve even greater penetration in the next few years.
